Lacey and Larkin Fight For Latinos

The people I respect the most are the people who stand up against the evils that plagued mankind on this Earth. It is when good people take a stand the evil will never find route on this good World.

Personally, I myself have dedicated my livelihood to eradicating the evil in minds and hearts of people. I am not the only one to do this. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are two other people who also decided to take a stand against the tyranny in this world.

It was because these two brave men took a stand that they were able to start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund came out of a Injustice that was done to Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

The Injustice began when Sheriff Joe Arpaio of the Maricopa County decided that he would retaliate against Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin because they exposed the crimes that he was doing. Read more: Michael Lacey | Facebook and Phoenix New Times | Wikipedia

It was on there to Media Outlets, Phoenix New Times and Village Voice media, that Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin showed who Sheriff Arpaio really was.

They reported, and showed evidence, that Sheriff Arpaio was guilty of racially profiling Latinos, systematically persecuting them, jailing them in substandard cells, allowing Latinos to die under his watch, and misappropriated the funds that the county had given him. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin full well knew that Sheriff Arpaio was known to take revenge against those who spoke out against him.

It was on October 18th that Sheriff Arpaio thought he would enact his revenge. he pulled up to the homes of Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin and several unmarked SUVs. He would then illegally break down the doors of their homes, go inside, remove them from their beds, and then illegally detained them.

Michael and Jim were imprisoned for a total of 24 hours. The only reason that they were allowed to leave was because the outcry against this injustice grew to a national scale.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin would take the Maricopa County to court and sue them for a grand total of 3.75 million dollars. With the funds in hand, they would then go and start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund.

It was from this fund that they would begin giving other nonprofits grants so that they could also fight immigrant injustice and promote civil right

Betsy DeVos, a Cheerful Giver and a Reformer

In an interview with Philanthropy, Betsy DeVos was asked to paint a picture of success as she would see it when she retired. In response to this, Betsy said that in retirement, she would feel fulfilled if parents were able to pick the best educational environment and setting for their children. Betsy was clear that this she hoped would be the plight of all parents without regard to the area they were from in America.

Charter Schools

Asked about Charter schools, Betsy said that these provided a choice for parents. She says that Charter schools are part of the solution that parents can look to along with virtual schools, and homeschooling. Betsy also spoke of magnet schools, vouchers and tax credits as being among the choices parents can pick from today.

Lobbying Vis a Vis Charity

Asked how she allocates her time between lobbying and charity, Betsy says she does not really differentiate the two and allocate time. Both she says are geared towards improving the work that together with her family and husband she has labored tirelessly for. She is however quick to point out that she is scrupulous about the allocations of resources and personnel in the ‘public-policy advocacy’. She said that as a volunteer, she spends a good many hours challenging and encouraging donors to involve themselves in advocacy as this is how real change is born.

Betsy DeVos

Betsy has spent over 15 years as a school mentor to vulnerable public school students in the Grand Rapids area. Betsy’s passion for education was sparked when she was still in school by her mum, a school teacher.
